MEMORY

The existing hospital is a monoblock building in which different internal areas have been modernized and has undergone successive reforms. All this has been implemented as a whole with different building bodies, forming a rather unstructured polyblock, so we understand that the functional reprogramming and the master plan imply a comprehensive treatment of the entire hospital complex.

The proposed plan is based on improving the distances between related services, based on the needs of transporting patients, samples, supplies, etc., which facilitate the development of all the functions inherent to the activity and optimize the work of the staff based on this proximity between more or less dependent areas.

The constructive harmony of the complex is reinforced by the design of continuous façades on the basement floors and the arrangement of free-standing volumes above them that house the hospitalisations, thus achieving a visually penetrable and spongy compositional unit. This is favoured by the integration in each hospitalisation tower of completely open-plan intermediate floors in which gardens are planned that will allow not only the walking and the stay of patients and companions, but also to house temporary outdoor exhibitions or other activities compatible with the healthcare function.
