MEMORY
The desire to build a high-quality hospital, based on the functional programme drawn up by the Murcian Health Service, defines the fundamental features of the project for the New General University Hospital of Murcia, which opens its doors with the new name of Reina Sofía General University Hospital. Thus, the search for easy accessibility to the public service that the Hospital constitutes, high technical-scientific quality and a high degree of acceptance by users (public and professional), are objectives that have governed the project and the construction of the building.
The implantation of the building on the site, with irregular geometry, obeys on the one hand a clear vocation to form part of the urban fabric, rising as a representative building of the community to which it belongs and of which it is a part, and on the other, to the satisfaction of the complex intrinsic needs that the activity of the Hospital raises. Three parallel volumes have been designed to define two intermediate courtyards, aligned with the riverbed and Avda. Intendente Jorge Palacios, which are completed with the maintenance and facilities building (EMI), built on the adjacent plot and connected to the main buildings on the underground levels.
